Defiance

from Starlust by Men Wearing Dresses

/

about

“Defiance” is a serpent feature. The serpent is what many consider a precursor to the tuba. It is a long S shaped tube with six holes. With practice, a very resonant sound can be made on the instrument. Performer, Patrick Wibart, is an inspiration to me on the serpent with his beautiful sound. John Baylies adds some fill and background beat with Didgeridoo effects through a Nu mouthpiece (that he helped engineer back in 2014).

lyrics

How many asian rockstars have you seen in America?
I've always wanted to be a rockstar.
My race made me feel like there was a glass ceiling defining how big a rockstar I could become.
I play music in defiance of that fact.
There is room for someone like me.
I hope this inspires others.
